A Bit of Background

i’ll be 47 on my next birthday and am a former recovering heroin addict who successfully managed to graduate from the methadone maintenance program in the fall of 2001 only to start using opiates again after a very lengthy and sober break. once again i started back on methadone maintenance treatment, this time in january of 2006. so far it is proving to be a success for me as i no longer obsess or crave or even think about any kind of opiate. in fact, i can’t even remember the last time that i actually used at all, although i’m pretty sure that it was around june of 2006. i’m also pretty sure that i couldn’t even feel its effects because of the strength of my methadone…anyway, i am doing all of this while maintaining a family and a full time job plus a semblance of sanity…

i had been working full time as a Building Manager in an eight story semi luxury high rise with my husband until just over two years ago when we were both attacked while at work responding to what we thought was a simple noise complaint. jim ended up being stabbed 24 times and almost dying as a result of this attack. three complete strangers whom we had never even seen before were responsible, and since this time have now all been found guilty. two of our atttackers were brothers and they are currently serving 7 and 8 years respectively. the third attacker served twenty five months in jail and is now out. when the two for one credit was calculated, it translated into him having had served over four years so…

jim and i have been together now forever and couldn’t imagine life without the other.  we met in high school thirty years ago this September. we have a twenty year old daughter, plus about four years ago, we took in her best friend who is also the same age. to say there is never a dull moment would truly be an understatement…we are also fortunate enough to own our very own 23 unit apartment building outside of town, which one day is eventually going to be our freedom 55…almost there…i love computers although i was late in discovering them…i am currently learning how to be the master of paint shop pro and enjoy creating my own unique graphics for my various web sites…i also learned to sew about six and a half years ago and now am able to design and sew my own creations…i am not sure which i enjoy more – sewing or computing.

i graduated centuries ago with both an HBA in History and Business Diploma in Marketing. would love to return to school full time to study Web Design but financially not yet ready to be able to do that. i absolutely adore punk rock and a lifetime ago, i was fortunate enough to actually own my very own live entertainment bar/venue ,where i was able to pretty much cater exclusively to my love of punk and live bands. to the much younger generation that frequented my establishment – this was back in ’96 thru to ’98 when i was 32 to 34 – i was an anomaly. rarely had they encountered someone of my advanced years that shared their same passions. as a result, i earned the nicknames of high priestess of punk and goth granny. oh memories!!! finally my all time favourite bands in the whole, wide world are depeche mode, manic street preachers and social distortion.
